- M-Net (DStv 101) is adding Yellowstone prequels – 1883 and 1923 – to its April and June line-up.
- 1883 will air on the channel from Thursday, 13 April at 21:00, while 1923 will air every Thursday from 22 June at the same time.
- The first prequel stars real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford lead the cast in the second prequel.
M-Net (DStv 101) is expanding its Yellowstone universe offering by adding its popular prequels – 1883 and 1923 – to its line-up in April and June.
Brand-new episodes of 1883 air every Thursday from 13 April at 21:00, and new episodes of 1923 every Thursday from 22 June at the same time.
"The prequels will offer fans an entirely new perspective on the Yellowstone story, providing a glimpse into the complex lives that have shaped the region and its people," a press statement reads.
"The highly anticipated shows will delve into the history of some of Yellowstone's most iconic characters and provide viewers with a gripping backstory to the critically acclaimed series."
Per the statement, 1883 is a stark retelling of Western expansion and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty in Texas to seek a better future in America's promised land – Montana.
It stars real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, while Sam Elliot portrays Shea Brennan, a tough cowboy with a sadness from his past. Other cast members include Isabel May as Elsa Dutton, LaMonica Garrett as Thomas, Dawn Olivieri as Claire Dutton, Billy Bob Thornton as a guest star, and Tom Hanks in a civil war flashback scene.
Meanwhile, the eight-episode 1923, which carries on the storyline of 1883, with a "slightly newer generation of characters". Viewers will see the Dutton family progressed with newfound power and land ownership in Montana during western expansion, prohibition and the great depression.
Hollywood stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford lead the cast as Cara and Jacob Dutton.
"The prequels will also serve as a gateway for new audiences to fall in love with the world of Yellowstone," the statement continued. "Whether you are an avid fan or a first-time viewer, these prequels are not to be missed."
