BOOK: Saving South Africa: Lessons from the uMngeni Municipality Success Story by Chris Pappas and Sandile Mnikathi (Macmillan)

The DA won control of the uMngeni Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in the 2021 local government elections. As the only DA-run municipality in KZN, uMngeni shows how local government could work in post-ANC South Africa. In their book Saving South Africa, Chris Pappas, DA mayor of uMngeni, and Sandile Mnikathi, deputy mayor, write about their election campaign, victory, the difficult transition and the lessons for SA today.

In this video, Pappas and Mnikathi talk about how they got into politics, why their campaign resonated with voters, and how they are changing municipal governance in uMngeni.
