  • Locals are sharing lists of their favourite hotspots.
  • We rounded up a list of Johannesburg-based restaurants where you can find these specials.

A simple social media post by Twitter user @AvelaMAwisa has turned into a money-can't-buy marketing opportunity for Bryanston restaurant Perron.

Mawisa, a digital communication strategist, shared a flyer from the restaurant exclaiming his shock at what Perron charges for bottomless margaritas on Sundays.

According to Twitter analytics statistics, his post had been seen 9.9 million times three days after posting it. The flyer had also been saved and shared on other social media platforms by people who had seen his original post.

Gatekeeping alcohol?

Mawisa's post also started a conversation about how hard it becomes to enjoy certain places and things once too many people know about them.

Other social media users accused people who expressed this concern of "gatekeeping" alcohol and experiences.

This also prompted Joburg-based social media users to share the names of their favourite hotspots with specials for bottomless beverages on certain days.
