When it comes to technology, there's just no comparing performance cars in the past to ones currently being produced. One of the greatest advancements in that regard is the amount of power a naturally aspirated or turbocharged engine can have, with considerably less displacement in some instances. 

Even though they are on the pricey scale, South African petrolheads have quite a selection of performance offerings to choose from. Plenty of hot hatches (VW Golf GTI, Honda Civic Type R) and blisteringly quick sedans (BMW M3, Mercedes-AMG C 43) easily warrant an eye-watering monthly debit order. 

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility, and automakers pull out all the stops regarding safety. This will almost always include features like a better braking setup and an advanced traction control system, among other things.
