The popularity of the once-ubiquitous sedan body style has waned dramatically in recent times. The same can be said of diesel, particularly in the passenger-vehicle market (it is, of course, still the fuel of choice in South Africa's light-commercial vehicle segment). This is a great pity because an oil-burning saloon has the potential to offer a wonderful mix of verve and economy.
