The Gauteng
High Court in Johannesburg has made a significant change to the provisions for
parental leave.
Family lawyer Simon Dippenaar of Simon Dippenaar and Associations says the decision concerns the periods of leave allocated to mothers and fathers of children born of the mother, as well as to adoptive parents and parents of children conceived by surrogacy.
Dippenaar adds this brings South Africa in line with many other countries that allow parental leave to be shared between both parents.
