During the lockdown, we’ve had limited opportunities to fill our social feeds with envy-inducing location pictures and we’ve had to tap into a bit of ingenuity and stretch those creative muscles.

Many Instagram photographers have started photography challenges for us to get involved in at home. And their lockdown photography prompt lists are sure to get our creative juices flowing during the pandemic.

Tik Tok users have also been sharing phone photography tips through videos showcasing how they take artsy photos with nothing more than their smartphones and some apps.

With the advances in smartphone cameras today, the features are as good if not better than many stand-alone cameras. Take Huawei’s genius partnership with Leica, packing all the best features of a standard camera into your easy to use, portable phone camera. And Huawei’s latest offering to hit SA’s shores, the P40 Lite, has an even bigger surprise – it's totally budget-friendly.

In fact, Huawei’s new P40 Lite is the ultimate budget phone photographer’s friend. Retailing at under R7 000, the P40 Lite might be low on cost but packs a punch with its kitted-out AI Quad Camera.

With its impressive 48MP Main Camera, featuring an enhanced Night Mode, we can get crisp and vibrant images all day and night. Plus, its built-in AI capabilities allow us to get the most out of any subject - from landscapes to dogs to skies.

Its 8MP Ultra-Wide-Angle lens can soak up the splendour of any scene or landscape ahead of us. Or at least, for now, the views we have from our windows and balconies. While its 2MP Macro Lens lets us get a little closer to the things around us in this time of social distancing. Like the fine textures in a flower to the intricate details of an eye. Coupled with the 2MP Bokeh Lens which gives us the opportunity to take moody and aesthetic indoor shots. We can get creative playing with the focus and blurring effects of this new lens.

And who doesn't enjoy a good quality selfie, am I right? With its 16MP Selfie Lens, we never have to worry about a bad or blurry selfie again. Win!

These are only some of the features of Huawei's new phone, but they're sure to help amp up our phone-tography game.

To help build up some inspo, here are some of our favourite Instagram lockdown photography and Tik Tok videos:
