The summer is nigh and ‘tis the season of sunset picnics on the beach to the melody of the crashing waves and road trip jams.

JOOX wants to help you get your playlists ready in time to sway along to with ice cream in hand when the Saffa sun finds its way out from behind the clouds.

And where better to start than keeping your track list local and lekker with the freshest of SA’s talent.

Here are some of our favourite new homegrown stars:

Darkie Fiction

Formed in the Mother City in 2017, this musical duo adds a kwaito, afro-funk, neo-soul and hip hop flare to their sound. With their unique style and retro feel - you'll find yourself transported to an ethereal realm with each track.

The duo, comprised of rapper Katt Daddy and songstress Yoza Mnyanda might be new on the scene, but their music is quickly elevating them in the music scene.

Thesis ZA

Another Cape Town founded duo making jazzy waves on the music scene is Thesis ZA.

Comprised of Ondela Simakuhle and Ayanda Charlie, the duo have not yet released a full album, but with their music which draws on traces of neo soul, R&B, Afro soul and jazz, they're sure to skyrocket to success.

Bonj Mpanza

Coming off the heels of opening for global superstar, Sam Smith, during his shortened SA tour, Bonj Mpanza is undoubtedly one to watch.

Born and raised in Soweto, the jazzy music produced by the artist will surely have you hooked on her silky vocals in no time.

Synth Peter

Pieter Geyer is changing the way you think of Afrikaans music.

Going by his DJ name, Synth Peter, he is taking this SA language and moulding to the electronic beeps and pings of EDM music.

Sio

Stemming from Ennerdale in the South of Johannesburg, Sio is a vocal treasure.

Her old-school musical styling is bound to transport you to another era and take you on a lyrical journey.  She recently released an album call 'sbtxts' and has collaborated with the likes of Luka, Dwson and Charles Webster to name a few.
