  • Pills that help couples stay in love could be available within the next decade.
  • The 'love potions' are said to help individuals become more confident when dating and will include oxytocin and a low dose of ecstasy.
  • Despite ethical concerns regarding the idea, experts say love drugs are on the horizon.

Stories about love potions have existed for many years, and while some believe that it could be true, others are still reluctant about the idea of making someone fall in love with you.

Now, scientists are working on a drug that could help spark the romance between couples.

According to Metro UK, experts are working on an MDMA drug that will contain what is called the 'cuddle hormone' oxytocin and a low dose of ecstasy that will help couples fall back in love.

Dr Anna Machin, an anthropologist from Oxford University, spoke at the Cheltenham Science Festival and said that love drugs are certainly on the horizon despite many ethical questions.

"We know enough now about the neurochemistry of love to probably suggest some things you could take to enhance your abilities to fall in love or to increase the possibility that you will stay in love when it's getting a little bit tricky," she said.

She also added that the drug could help people become more confident when dating and help them fall in love.

Dr Anna is convinced that the drug will be available in the next 10 years: “Oxytocin could be available within a decade for people to squirt up their nose before they go out on a Saturday night – at the same time as a glass of prosecco.”

Although the drugs could be available within a decade, it could take a little bit longer because of ethical concerns.

“There are more ethical questions surrounding MDMA so, that is likely to take longer,” she added.
