  • Dating trends keep evolving with every generation.
  • After the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of singletons began taking the sober route of their dating experiences.
  • Thus, they coined a new term: "sober curious" or "dry dating," which allowed them to go on dates with a clear mind.

Trends are forever changing as the years go by, and at the top of the conversation this year is being "sober curious" when it comes to dating. This is where singles try a new way of dating, which excludes alcohol.

We've seen this trend introduced in weddings as well last year, where couples host an alcohol-free ceremony. Popular dating app, Bumble, has predicted that the trend will be popular this year, according to a study it conducted.

"Since the [Covid-19] pandemic, we have seen a rise in 'sober curiosity' and more people are opting for alcohol-free dry dates. Dating while sober may feel more difficult for some, but nothing feels more empowering than living a life true to your needs. We want everyone in our community to be able to communicate the most authentic version of themselves, worry-free on Bumble and by using the Drinking Badge, you can express if you are sober or evaluating your relationship with alcohol," Bumble communication director, Samarpita Samaddar, told Economic Times.

The study found that 24% of singles who consume alcohol said they would not do so when going on dates this year.

The study also pointed out that nearly 56% of these singletons would focus on getting to know their prospective partner with a clear mind. Others said they wanted alcohol-free dates for the sake of their health, and the remaining users claimed they only consumed alcohol on dates to reduce stress and nerves.

Samarpita also shared a list of things you could do to introduce this concept in your dating life as you try being sober on dates.

- Consider making the first date dry for the both of you by going on a walk or doing a sober activity.

- Choose coffee dates.

- Go for a run in the park; do some yoga, or cycling together.

- Visit food fairs or explore street food hopping together.

- Attend a concert, or art and literature festivals.
