First dates can be kind of nerve-wracking, and deciding on the perfect outfit only adds to that pressure.

"An outfit says a lot about your personality and unique style, and it doesn't stop there. Choosing a memorable scent for a first encounter is just as important for defining yourself as fashion and fragrance go hand in hand with who you are," says Gold Series Perfumes brand manager Geraldine Augustine-Darwood.

Before even getting to your look, consider the location and time of your date. Whether it's coffee in the afternoon or dinner with a casual stroll after - the type of date will play a big part in what you choose to wear.

Dos:

Go with what you know best

It's okay to rely on your go-to look for a first date. Choosing an outfit you've worn before can ease a lot of pressure. Go for something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.

Accessorise

Accessories are a great way to take any date night look to the next level. Not only that, but it also allows you to show off a bit of your personality and can be a great conversation starter.

A scent to remember

Now that we've engaged sight, it's time to play on another important sense - smell. Make a lasting impression with your favourite fragrance.

Things to avoid:

Keep it simple

Don't overdo it with the accessories. While they could be a great accompaniment to your look, try not to overwhelm your outfit with too many things.

No fashion experiments

This is probably not the best time to experiment with a new item of clothing -- you could just be adding more stress to the date if you're constantly worried about your outfit or don't feel as confident as you usually do.

Avoid your gym attire

Unless you've opted for something like a hike or a sporty activity, steer clear of gym clothes. You may give your date the impression that you have not put any effort into your outfit.

Bonus tip:

Be true to yourself. With all of these tips in mind, it's important to be true to who you are. You should never feel the need to change who you are to impress your date.
