A man who faced abuse and judgment for wanting to transition after being born female has told how he finally learned to embrace and accept himself after his male daughter came out as transgender and inspired him.

Leonardo Medeiros, from Santa Catarina, Brazil, shared the experience of his troubled self-discovery journey as he explained how he hoped to prevent the same problems from happening to his girl. The 39-year-old businessman, who lives with his mother, Elisa, and his 20-year-old trans daughter, says the three make up the "Transdictional Brazilian Family", a play on the word "traditional".
