Not all of us have the privilege of going home to joy and cheer this festive season because some of us are estranged from our families. These are the stories of five people who are choosing peace this year.

'Every conversation was an interrogation'

"Every visit was becoming more tense for me and, being the youngest, every conversation was an interrogation about my life and then criticism of said life," says Zizi*, 35, who stopped going home for the holidays because she realised her beliefs and lifestyle no longer matched that of her family.
