  • Angela Joyce had been going to the same church as 63-year-old Dennis Govender for a while but they didn't interact much.
  • But cupid came knocking at a church event organized by the church's senior citizens where Dennis asked Angela for a dance.
  • It's been 11 months since then and the rest, as they say, is history.

When Angela started communicating with Dennis, she didn't expect to fall in love but as fate (and her son) would have it, she did.

"I was married to my husband for 35 years, and he died five years ago," Angela says. Her son, Karabo, was the one who gave her the push to try again. "He was always saying I should at least find a friend," Angela says.

Angela was not scared to fall in love again after her husband passed, she was hesitant. And her sentiments are quite common as being with someone new later in life comes as a package, such as getting to know your partner's family, including children, grandchildren, and possibly an ex-wife - that can be daunting.

Angela shares that being in love at 65 years old is a different but unique kind of love. "At this age, you look at things with a different perspective, including love. You learn to appreciate the small things and everything matters, and this time love feels so amazing because you cherish it a lot more," she says.

Finding yourself in love at 65-years-old is one thing, but imagine finding yourself trending because of it. That's what happened when Karabo posted on Twitter that his mom was nervous to meet Dennis' family.

The tweet read: "Please pray for my mother. Nothing is wrong but she’s meeting her boyfriend's family today and sis is a 65 year old bag of nerves!"

"I was surprised. I am shocked by the number of people who liked the tweet and how people wanted to know more. It was heartwarming," Angela says.

"Love has no age. As long as you have life, you can find love if you are prepared to venture. Don't be scared, yes, the ocean is deep, but we all have someone for us."

The meeting with the family went well and Joyce got back home at a decent hour - as Karabo shared on the day posting: "It’s 8:23pm and she just got home!!"

The couple is also glad to have reached another milestone in their relationship.

Karabo is very happy that his mom is in love again. "I always want her to be happy, and her boyfriend makes her happy. It's also interesting to see her like a lovesick puppy. I laugh a lot," he says.
