  • The wedding day is arguably one of the most planned events of a person’s life.
  • Unfortunately for these brides, despite the planning that went into their weddings -things did not work out as intended.
  • Here, three Quora brides share their ‘haywire’ weddings.

Unwelcome weather and a broken bridesmaid’s zip

For Quora user Jess Meehan, the one thing she couldn’t control – the weather – decided to suddenly play up on her wedding day.

According to Jess, she and her fiancé happened to get married in the week of one of the UK’s worst snowstorms in decades.

“Now it doesn’t snow very often in England, when it does it’s usually not very much and it very rarely snows in March so it took us completely by surprise,” she says.

Unfortunately, the snowstorm meant that 24 of the guests were unable to attend the wedding, including the bride’s maternal grandparents, who she is “extremely close” to.

“At the last minute we were inviting local friends who we knew were coming to the ceremony to come to the reception as well, so that we didn’t have 24 meals going to waste,” says Jess.

Despite the snowstorm, the biggest ‘oops’ of the wedding day was when the zip on one of the bridesmaid’s dresses broke a few minutes before the bridal party was due at the church.

“In the end, we used two of the shawls that I’d bought for the bridesmaids to keep them warm and safety pinned them at the back to cover where the zip should’ve been, which worked at keeping her decent and comfortable,” says Jess.

The mishap meant that the bride was 40 minutes late to the church ceremony.

“Thankfully, my groom was still there waiting for me,” says Jess.

“Despite all of that, my wedding was a beautiful, special day and I got to marry the love of my life. The only thing I would change is having my grandparents there, but we were able to live-stream the ceremony so that they and others who couldn’t make it could watch,” she adds.

Unfinished hair and a crushed cake

For Quora user Adewunmi Okunola, a series of events led to her ‘haywire’ wedding.

Firstly, Adewunmi’s hairstylist for the wedding, a younger friend of hers, did not show up on the day.

“My hair was [left] unfinished,” she says.

Secondly, during the reception, when the MC announced that it was time to cut the cake, Adewunmi and her husband looked at the door, eagerly awaiting the glorious four-tier cake that they had ordered. Instead, the newlywed couple was met with a panicky usher who went on to explain that the cake had gotten crushed on route to the venue.

“I was so tired, that I just smiled, and waited for the next order of events,” says Adewunmi.

A nail-polish-stained wedding dress

For Crystal Duncan, a pre-wedding nail appointment ended with smudges and a stained dress.

While at the appointment, the manicurist said that Crystal looked nervous and offered to paint an ‘evil eye’ on her ring finger to bring good luck.

“She made a beautiful evil eye, and I tried to fix my wedding gown before it dried. [I] got a streak of blue nail polish on the middle of my gown!” says Crystal.

According to Crystal, the manicurist did not want to wipe the blue stain off, as she was scared it would smudge.

“So we just painted coat after coat of white nail polish over it! It was ridiculous! Lol. I can laugh about it now,” she says.
