  • Alcohol is a common beverage consumed at weddings.
  • However, this woman decided not to serve alcohol at her wedding reception.
  • She shared this on Reddit, and users of the platform had mixed reactions.

We all know that weddings call for a good celebration and what is a celebration without a drink or two. Well, there's a new wedding trend where couples who don't consume alcohol are deciding to have a 'Dry Wedding' - a wedding where no alcohol is served, not even a cash bar for guests to purchase their own. This bride received mixed reactions on Reddit for saying she had a non-alcoholic wedding.

Talking to Redditors, she began the conversation by letting readers know that she and her husband decided to have a dry wedding since they don't drink and see no point in spending money on alcohol. "We were debating about getting a cash bar but then decided to no alcohol at all. There [would] be a wide range of other drinks, not just juice and soda provided." She continued to say that they informed their guests through the invitations. "We said something along the lines of 'You don't have to be worried about choosing a driver or paying a taxi since everybody will be able to drive'."

A friend of hers called to ask if the dry wedding idea was a joke. "Then he asked what was wrong with me and how is he supposed to have fun without alcohol, and how [would] he function that night." Her response left her friend offended. "I told him that I was not obligated to provide alcohol to him just because he is not able to have fun without it."

"If he needs alcohol so badly and cannot function without it for even one night... he might be having an alcohol problem and should consider a therapy to treat it." The friend got upset at the bride, and then she took her invitation back because he used so many slurs against her. "Our friends are divided about me being a bad person. Some say I was right; others say I was not right." Users of Reddit jumped on the comment section with similarly mixed reactions.

One said, "The point of the event is not for him to have fun but for him to come celebrate your wedding day with you." In support of the comment, another added, "It's worrisome that someone would be that horrified by the idea of having to socialise sober for one evening. The alcohol lifestyle is actually toxic, and it shouldn't be taken lightly." Others opposed the bride, with one saying, "If you're not gonna provide alcohol for your guests, at least have a cash bar for those who want to drink."
