It's quite common for a bride-to-be to undergo a makeover before walking down the aisle. This could mean going under the knife to get liposuction, a Brazilian butt lift, a new set of breasts or even going on a weight-loss journey.

In 2010, E! launched a new reality wedding show where brides battled each other for plastic surgery treatments and a chance to win a celebrity-style wedding.

Although the show only aired for one season, women who are about to get married still continue the tradition. For some, this works out well, and for others, there are health complications. This 21-year-old bride-to-be passed away after getting a "boob job" to suit her low-cut wedding gown.

Alessia Neboso, an Italian bride-to-be, recently passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The 21-year-old beautician was set to marry her longtime boyfriend, Mario Lucchesi. However, a few days after her breast implant surgery, she began to feel sick.

According to the Daily Mail, she developed a high fever, fatigue, a cough, weakness and as well as gastrointestinal issues. When she wasn't getting any better, her family took her to Villa dei Fiori Clinic in Acerra, near Naples, in Italy.

Upon arriving at the clinic, her condition worsened and according to the doctor who treated her, he and his colleagues understood that the situation was serious.

"Her functional indicators were all altered, the kidneys were already failing, her white blood cell count was at 17 000 and she was starting to have difficulty breathing. We subjected her to all possible tests. We wanted to understand where the sepsis was localised. We did an ultrasound and a CT scan of the abdomen, another CT scan of the chest, from which we understood that the problem was coming from the lungs," said Dr Ciccarelli.

The young woman was stabilised and taken to the ICU. However, despite the doctors' efforts to keep her alive, she unfortunately passed on a few hours later.

Her family told the local media that if the doctors were responsible for her death, they want justice.

"If there are liabilities, they must come to light. If Alessia died because of the doctors, we want justice. She was doing great, she was beautiful, young and healthy. They must tell us what happened in that operating room," her parents said.
