  • Diamonds come in various shapes and cuts, each with unique characteristics.
  • The diamond you love says a lot about your taste and personality.
  • Are you dazzling and independent or elegant and timeless? Here's what your favourite diamond cut says about you.

Have you ever wondered where your preferred love for a specific diamond comes from? It turns out the diamond you love says a lot about your taste and personality.

Diamonds come in various shapes and cuts, each with unique characteristics. The My Girl diamond is one of the most popular cuts, designed and patented worldwide by world-renowned jeweller Yair Shimansky.

But when it comes to diamond cuts, there are two main types: brilliant cuts and step cuts.

Brilliant cuts, such as the round brilliant, My Girl, oval, pear shape, and cushion, are known for their sparkle, fire, and scintillation, each unique to the cut itself.

Step cuts, like the emerald cut, Asscher cut, and baguette cut, are more contemporary in design and reflect light like a mirror, giving them a different energy and feel than brilliant cuts.

Here is what these diamond cuts say about you:

Round brilliant cut: You are elegant and timeless

A round brilliant cut diamond offers timeless beauty. This diamond is for those who want elegance at every stage of life, situation, and occasion.

Pear cut: You are tasteful and adventurous

The pear-shaped diamond is the best of two cuts: The marquise and the round brilliant. While these diamonds come fitted in rings, they are often used in necklaces and earrings. The pear shape is for those who want a timeless classic shape with a more modern twist.

Marquise cut: You are self-assured and positive

This particular cut, with two sharp points on both ends, accentuates long, slender fingers and is perfect for those wanting something a little more unique. It has 58 facets as standard and was inspired by the smile of French King Louis XV's mistress, Marquise de Pompadour. Famous celebrities who have worn this shaped diamond include Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Victoria Beckham and Ashlee Simpson.

Emerald cut: You want to stand out from the crowd

Emerald cut: These diamond rings can be found on the hands of Amal Clooney, Beyoncé, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez. These are not women who surrender themselves to being wallflowers. They are women who are confident, driven and who get noticed. This diamond is for anyone with these personality traits. The Emerald cut features step-like facets and is rectangular in shape.

Princess cut: You are dazzling and independent

This is one of the most well-known diamond cuts. The Princess cut is square in shape and is a popular choice for engagement rings. It is a square version of the Round Brilliant and is a relatively new shape in diamonds.

This soft-edged diamond resembles a cushion, as the name suggests. It is a shape that has been around for several years - since the start of the diamond cutting industry - and can be more rectangular in shape or a rounded square. The cushion cut is for those who like the classic round cut but with a more traditional pattering and setting. Celebrities who have had this particular cut as engagement rings include Meghan Markle, Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen.
