  • Royal wedding cakes tend to be made precisely following strict royal rules.
  • However, Meghan Markle gave her wedding baker free rein.
  • The baker did, however, include an ingredient from Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham estate.

When the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, married Prince Harry, there were so many controversies that certain details were overlooked.

Now, more and more details about her wedding decisions are coming out. We recently learnt that she had a great time on the dance floor during her reception, as revealed by Idris Elba, the DJ at the wedding. Now, the wedding cake baker has shared the instructions she received from Meghan. And according to the cake maker, the mandate was the best job brief ever.

Meghan used Violet Cakes in East London when she said 'I do' in 2018. The owner, Claire Ptak, spoke to Tatler about the process, saying she had free rein when making the cake.

"Meghan, she specifically said to me, 'I don't want to tell you what to do. The reason why I've chosen you is because I love your baking and your work and your point of view and your ethos," Claire told the publication. She says she responded to the mother-of-two by saying, "Oh my God, that's so cool. The best job brief ever!"

Before the couple made their final decision on the cake, the California-born baker made six choices for them to try.

"They did the tastings, and they picked the lemon and elderflower, which was my first choice as well," Claire added. It took five days to make the multi-layered cake in Buckingham Palace.

One of the ingredients came straight from the late Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham estate - the elderflower syrup. Claire also included the recipe for the royal's wedding cake in her new book titled, 'Love is a Pink Cake' and also re-made the cake for their daughter, Princess Lilibet's first birthday celebration.
