  • A couple from Auckland in New Zealand recently tied the knot at the delicacy shop Krispy Kreme.

Wedding competitions by different companies are helpful to couples who need a helping hand with planning and managing the cost of their weddings.

Some competitions cover the entire wedding ceremony costs, including the bride and groom's attire. However, they seldom include the honeymoon as well.

For Emma and Kurt Te Amo, a couple from Auckland in New Zealand, who met online during the pandemic, winning one such competition by delicacy store Krispy Kreme was just what they needed. They've recently tied the knot at the drive-thru store.

The newlyweds, who recently said "I dough", lives with cerebral palsy and have shared they embraced diversity and having fun, so, this unconventional wedding was right up their alley.

The 33-year-olds met online during the first wave of the 2020 Covid-19 lockdowns.

Emma has a daughter, Emily, and Kurt hadn't been in a relationship for five years at the time they met.

"I was scrolling and came across Emma's profile. From there all it took was starting off with the word, 'Hi'," Kurt shared with Now To Love.

Emma added they became best friends during the pandemic.

"We talked about everything, from how our day was, to what's happening with family. We became best friends, and it helped me get through the lockdowns," the newly wed shared.

After the lockdown, the couple made a day to meet in person and Kurt arrived with a bouquet of lilies, Emma's favourite, and made sure he opened the door for her.

"I had been a single mother for so long and it was the first time I had been out in a long time, but I could see he listened to me and I just felt special," she said.

Six months later, Kurt popped the question while they were visiting his parents on Christmas.

"We were in Paeroa looking out over the Hauraki Plains at this beautiful view and I decided it was the perfect time to pop the question," he said.

Emma added she felt part of his family that day.

"I was enjoying that day so much. I really felt a part of his family and proposing was just the icing on the cake," she said.

The couple began planning their wedding from that day on and planned to include themes from interests they shared, like WWE wrestling, however, they didn't have the financial capability to pull it off.

This was until Emma saw the wedding promotion at Krispy Kreme.

The pair entered but with little hope they would win, however, fate was on their side as they were chosen as winners out of 120 couples who entered.

"We were so shocked when we got the phone call to say we had won! Until then, we really wanted to be married but we didn't have the means," Emma said.

The couple tied the knot at the doughnut shop alongside family and friends as well as Emma's daughter.

"We feel quite honoured we can share our story with the nation and show people that it doesn't matter which side of diversity you're on, or if you're differently abled or able-bodied. Love comes in all forms, shapes, and sizes, and if you find love, anything is possible," Kurt said.
