  • A woman on Reddit  shared that she is angry that her parents are not happy about her engagement.
  • Her parents say she is too young to get married even though she is 25.
  • She has been dating her fiancé for two years and believes this is a perfect time to get married.

When your partner proposes, your family is likely to be the first to celebrate and congratulate you, or so we thought.

Unfortunately for a 25-year-old Reddit user news of her engagement did not land well with her family.

"My partner and I got engaged, and my parents have been pretty sour/disapproving. Their main arguments are that we're too young. While I have had various convos with them about it, have listened to them and given my opinions, they seem to still have mixed feelings," she says.

The soon-to-be bride and groom have been together two years and the bride-to-be believes this is long enough to get engaged.

"They refuse to let me tell anyone else we're engaged, and while at first, I was tired of being in the middle, now, I just feel anger towards them. This is supposed to be the happiest time of my life, and I can't enjoy it because of them," the bride-to-be explains.

Reddit users shared their thoughts.

"Just tell people! You are 25; you are not bound by your parent's feelings. I got married last year at 25 to a man I had dated/been engaged to for a total of 3.5 years. We got engaged at 2.5 years. Not trying to be offensive - just trying to think of what may be going through their heads.

"Often close family are reluctant to bring up any concerns and instead play off as 'too young' or other vague excuses. If there's really nothing at all, then they're just being weird, and you shouldn't let them dictate your enjoyment and whether or not you tell people!"

Another user seemed to understand where the parents may be coming from if the groom-to-be hadn't asked them for their blessing before proposing.

"I'm 28 and had been with my boyfriend for 8 1/2 years before he proposed. He asked for my father's blessing two months before he proposed. Yet somehow, my narcissistic parents were completely shocked when he asked me to marry him. They said they were "hurt" and that they weren't present to see it happen. It actually oofs me to this day.

"I didn't speak to them for a few months afterwards because I was so angry they would take away my moment to make it about themselves."
