A woman from Nebraska named Johnnie Mae Dennis married her now-late husband, Toraze Davis. The ceremony went well until the bride and groom stepped outside the church to take pictures, and Toraze collapsed. According to a US television station, KETV, the bride's friend, Jewel Robertson, said, "We were in the church, and it was a beautiful ceremony." The bride's co-worker, Monica Miller, also added that this was a great day for the groom, "It was the happiest day of Toraze's life. I could just see the smile on his face and how happy he was, and it's just energy.... it was a great day for him."

The bride's friend, Jewel, also added that the groom had a fatal blood clot. On the events that took place that day, she says, "His heart stopped... just an hour after the ceremony had begun. Toraze suffered from a medical event that was not survivable. In a second. It happened within seconds."

After the groom collapsed, they rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The newlywed bride's co-worker, Monica, launched a $100 000 (R1 849 995) GoFundMe campaign to assist Johnnie with the burial expenses and help take care of her children.
