- A 69-year-old English man stumbled upon a medieval wedding ring in the South West of the English countryside.
- The ring was auctioned on 29 November by auctioneers Noonans Mayfair for between R610 000 and R812 000.
Metal detectorists spend their lives looking for treasure at the beach, forests or archaeological areas in hopes to find something that will give us a connection to our ancestors who once roamed the earth.
Some find nothing, while others find real treasure, like this UK man who stumbled upon a medieval diamond wedding ring in almost perfect condition.

According to CNN, the ring was found in the South West of the English countryside by a 69-year-old man named David Board during his second attempt at becoming a metal detectorist. He had stopped exploring in the 1970s when he couldn't find anything at the local beaches.
"There will probably never be another one like it. Back then, each ring was individual and unique, not mass-produced like today. It's stunning," he told CNN.
He found the ring on his second day of field search and he said at first he thought it was a crap metal that he put in his pocket.

"It was once I got home and washed it off that we realised it was a lot better than we thought. The wedding ring has a unique design with a golden hoop of two entwined bands to symbolise marital union and an inverted diamond set into it.
Inside the ring, there is a French inscription that says, 'Leo vos tien foi tenes le moy,' which translates to 'As I hold your faith, hold mine.' The ring was auctioned on 29 November for $35 500 (R609 479,62) to $47 300 (R812 067,21) by auctioneers Noonans Mayfair.
