People who refuse to accept a marriage proposal in Chad will now have to pay a fine.
This comes after the Higher Islamic Council in Mangalmé, Chad, ruled an amount between $23 (R375) and $39 (R630) for women and $15 (R240) for men was payable for turning down a marriage proposal.
The fine is known as "amchilini".

The Chadian Women's Rights League denounces the decision, calling it illegal and a violation of freedom of consent to marriage.
According to BBC, forced marriages are prevalent in Chad, with young underage girls the usual victims.
Despite a law passed in 2015 that prohibits child marriages, 60% of women aged between 20 and 24 were married when they were still children, according to figures from Chad's Institute of Statistics.
