Mary Grace Quigley pulled all the strings to have her father watch her as she walked down the aisle. Her father, Barry, was diagnosed with stage four cancer in his neck, which initially seemed like skin cancer before spreading to his lymph nodes in November 2022. However, as soon as the skin cancer spread, the 79-year-old was told he had only a few months to live.

Upon receiving the news, Mary switched roles and popped the question to her partner Thomas Stapledon over the phone last year since he had Covid-19. "We agreed if we had the opportunity to have all our parents there, we wanted to do it and have that special moment. I wanted my dad to know my husband is looking after me, so it's okay if he isn't there. I thought it might give him more peace," the 33-year-old newlywed bride said. The groom and bride's family came together to figure out how to plan a last-minute wedding.

Mary wore a dress she already owned for her wedding gown, while the groom's mother and aunt got the wedding cake together. For food, a family friend did a barbecue for the intimate wedding. "We had recently moved to somewhere with a big backyard, so it came together perfectly when we were planning it last minute," the bride added. Everyone from both families put together the decorations, and some brought cutlery. On the wedding morning, everything was set and ready to go.

We didn't give anyone any notice to come, but everyone came... It was perfect and never would have happened if we weren't in this horrible situation with my dad, so it was kind of a happy ending." Fortunately, the bride's father survived the prognosis and underwent surgery to remove the tumour. Now his cancer is in complete remission.
