  • Being a bridesmaid at your sister's wedding is one of the most exciting things to be a part of.
  • However, this sister can only attend the reception due to a memorial service she has to attend.
  • The memorial service is for a man and his daughter who died in the Kahramanmaras earthquake in Turkey.

When your sister is about to get married, it is the most exciting time because not only do you get to experience this special day with her, but you may also get to be a bridesmaid or maid of honour.

One woman was set to be a bridesmaid at her sister's wedding but decided she wouldn't be attending as she had to attend a friend's memorial service. The deceased was one of the victims of the Kahramanmaras earthquake in Turkey.

Taking to Reddit, the bride-to-be decided to vent about her disappointment in her sister being a no-show at her wedding, but the response she received wasn't what she expected. She started by letting readers know that she is four years younger than her sister and is supposed to be getting married next week.

Her sister is a bridesmaid. "She called me recently, saying she's going to have to miss most of my wedding ceremony, but can make it in time for the reception," shared the bride-to-be. The sister also explained that it was due to the fact that she had a memorial service to attend that day.

"I'm honestly really mad and upset, and I told her she can pay her respects another time, but she's missing my wedding for this. She's a bridesmaid, and she's backing out the week before," said the bride-to-be. The woman who is due to get married feels that her sister is being selfish, and her parents agree.

When some of the users of the platform asked the anonymous bride-to-be how close her sister was with the friend, she responded by saying, "It's a memorial. Her co-worker was originally Turkish, and he and his daughter went to visit family. Both of them, along with six to seven family members, died in the earthquake."

She also said her sister was friends with her co-worker outside of the office and that they spent a lot of time together.

Redditors wasted no time and began calling out the bride-to-be for being selfish. One user said: "Since the family was Turkish, there is a good chance that the funeral will happen there as well. This is your sister's only chance to pay her respects. Your wedding does not trump death."

Another added that her sister is not doing this to upset the bride-to-be but is actually caught the crossfire.

"Someone she was friends with died. She's not going to the memorial to spite you. I bet your sister also wishes the circumstances were different," said the user.
