Walk among 250-year-old trees, and dine in style, at this iconic Cape Town hotel By Andrew Thompson

It's Wednesday afternoon in the Cape Town suburb of Constantia.

Not far away, parents are jostling for position at one of half a dozen school pickup points. Quite likely, they're there to ferry dishevelled children from their first extramural activity to an extra extramural activity. A few minutes away, the city's N2 and M3 highways are already slowing, as tired office workers attempting to beat the rush inadvertently become it for the third time that week.

But from my bench tucked beneath a lush canopy on the grounds of the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, none of this matters.

REVIEW | While flawed, The Marvels puts the fun and action back into the superhero genre: It's a weird time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the lacklustre reception of its post-Endgame films (with a few exceptions) and the inconsistency with quality storytelling in its TV offerings, it's clear Disney has lost some grip on the lucrative franchise.

Enter The Marvels, the first all-women superhero team-up. Ignoring the usual sexist vitriol that follows women superhero characters and their actors, The Marvels is a concerted, continued attempt to diversify its male-centric oeuvre and succeeds in delivering a non-contrived, authentic connection among superpowered women who don't fall into mother-daughter stereotypes but remain true to their character's inner workings.

It might not be perfect, but The Marvels takes us back to the roots of the superhero genre - a fun, action-packed trip to the cinema, writes Gabi Zietsman.
