Thabo Bester is a convicted criminal, known as the "Facebook rapist", who escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre by faking his death in a fire in his prison cell in May 2022. He was on the run for almost a year before being caught with his partner and alleged accomplice, celebrity doctor Nandipha Magudumana. The pair will feature in a docu-series about their lives and the escape. News24 Life deputy editor Kaunda Selisho asks whether the story needs to be told from the perpetrator's perspective. 

A Nandipha Magudumana doccie is on the way, but do we really need the story of her boyfriend Thabo Bester's prison escape and the ensuing drama told from the perspective of the perpetrator? 

In August 2023, Moja Love affiliated website Zimoja reported that actor and TV producer Sonia Mbele visited Thabo Bester after he was recaptured in Tanzania in April.
