When it opened in 2009, on the site of a century-old synod of the Dutch Reformed Church and, curiously, on the banks of South Africa’s shortest official mountain pass, 15 on Orange caused something of a stir.
The mountain pass accolade is something of a quirk - called Grey’s Pass, the route drops just a metre as it bends towards Queen Victoria Road. But given its curious record in official topographical maps, its status remains as the country’s shortest, if least geographically impressive.
The church had sold the site a decade earlier, but the new property on the fringes of the CBD became a sudden place of interest. Since its completion, it has cycled through several notable owners, the most recent of which is The Capital - known for its affordable luxury model, mostly in the corporate space.
