Proudly SA recently wowed passengers with a surprise fashion show on a Lift Airline flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town on Wednesday, featuring garments from MaXhosa, Koop Studio, Scalo and more.

This, according to the company, comes as a bid to promote local brands, imploring others to ‘romance’ the country’s economy on Valentine’s Day and beyond.

“Maybe, this year, we could do things differently by deciding to romance our economy to create a meaningful day and month. By actively seeking and supporting locally manufactured goods and services, we have taken a step further in positively contributing to the economy and created an environment that benefits our loved ones immensely, as we will witness unemployment declining.

“Whichever part of the country you are in, we are asking you to join us as we spoil the most deserving valentine - our economy, because supporting local businesses helps create jobs and secures the future of our homes and, most importantly, our children,” said Chief Marketing Officer at Proudly South African Happy maKhumalo Ngidi.

Brands that were showcased include Koop Studio, which displayed the brand’s luxury sleepwear, and MaXhosa, presenting its modern, classy knitwear. Passengers were left breathless when models strutted in Scalo’s elegant red-carpet ensemble.

In addition to debuting the surprise fashion show 36,000 feet in the sky, passengers were spoilt with roses and some Nestlé Kit Kat chocolates.

The other leg of the outing included a road trip with Mercedes Benz SA in their locally manufactured cars, heading to the Atlantis, where they explored locally manufactured goods at a Hisense factory. The company got to present its household appliances while demonstrating the jobs created by the local plant.

Lift’s evening flight, scheduled for 19:00, also offered the passengers another fashion show, featuring Biji La Maison’s couture designs, Plus Fab with garments made for modern-day plus-size women, and Ezokhetho showcasing African luxury.

“We are hoping that this groundbreaking spectacle and showcase of the CTFL sector in an aeroplane will be an experience that will linger on for the longest time in the traveller’s mind, those who were fortunate enough to have booked their seats on these particular flights to CPT and back.

“It is one-of-a-kind experience which comes in handy for Proudly SA in our efforts to ensure that the Buy Local movement remains relevant, relatable, fun and truly emphasizes that buying and supporting locally manufactured goods and services to create jobs is a lifestyle,” Proudly SA said.
