Apples, dairy and oatmeal could help protect you against strokes, while too many eggs might have the opposite effect, according to a 2020 study published in the European Health Journal.
During the study, researchers followed 418 329 Europeans for an average of 12.7 years to see how their diets impacted their risk of having two types of strokes.
Researchers found that with every additional 10 grams of fibre a day, people's risk of having an ischemic stroke was 23% lower.

However, with every 20 grams of eggs eaten a day, which is about a third of a large egg, people's risk of having a haemorrhagic stroke increased by 25%.
More research will be needed to delve deeper into how a person's diet can influence their risk of having a stroke.
But in the meantime, researchers are advising that people increase their intake of fibre, fruits and vegetables.
