  • Having acne and spot-prone skin has been a challenge since my teen years, so I've tried different products.
  • Those products would leave my skin barrier damaged and my face brighter than it is naturally.
  • I received the Neutrogena Turmeric range a couple of months ago, and here's my review.

A little backstory - When puberty hit me, my skin took a turn for the worst, and as I got deeper into my teen years, my spot-prone skin followed me all the way to my second year in university. I had acne everywhere on my body, and I mean everywhere, my face, legs, arms and back. There was even a time when I wouldn't show my skin, even during the scorching summer. Fortunately, I found a good doctor who offered me some medication to take and a spot-removing cream, and sis has been looking stunning ever since. Although my puberty and acne days are behind me, every now and then, I would get pimples and heat rash and be left with the darkest spots on my face. I tried scrubs and products that damaged my skin barrier even more.

A couple of months ago, I received the Neutrogena Turmeric range. Right off the bat, my interest was in the main ingredient that was infused in all the products - turmeric. On my self-care Sundays, I would always make myself a turmeric mask, and I have loved the results. Now, I got to use multiple products that are infused with this ingredient. During this journey, I learnt a couple of things, the first being that when trying a new skincare range, you need to give it a couple of months because seasonal changes and hormones affect how products work and how your skin responds. The second, consistency yields the best results; the products forced me to have a skincare routine and keep at it.

The skincare range consists of five products I use every day: A mousse cleaner, mist toner, oil-free moisturiser, mask and a micellar jelly makeup remover. I only used the mask three times a week and also ensured that when I had makeup on, I put on the mask after washing my face and using the makeup remover. In the beginning, when I started using the products, I noticed little to no difference in my skin, and I could've given up, but instead, I was patient. The most immediate change I noticed was the smoothness of my skin. After months of using the products, I also started noticing a difference - my spots were few, my skin started glowing, and my skin barrier had been repaired without having to use a sugar scrub to remove the acne scars. Of all the products, the mist toner and the mask are my favourites.

The mist toner was also very useful during hot summer days to cool my skin, not only after washing my face. It's also quite portable, so I keep it in my bag. After a couple of uses of the mask, I don't apply a lot of makeup anymore because I have nothing to hide. The mask has given my skin a smooth surface to apply makeup on, and it's no longer textured and oily - a big win for me. I've tried many products to assist me with my skin issues, and it was really a shock to find products that work without being harsh on my skin and without making my skin brighter. I love how long the products last, so I can always buy them one by one as they finish without breaking the bank.
