- As South Africans, we firmly believe that the name you give your child becomes what the child grows to be.
- We look at a long list of names, trying to discern which would be the best fitting for the child. Some even go back to giving their children names of a great grandparent who had a strong character that they hope their child will also have.
- However, this TikTok user shared that her name is the same as that of the woman her father was in relationship with, so her father would cover up his infidelity if he said the woman's name by mistake at home.
Kristen took to TikTok to share a video where she explained how her name came about. With the username @keepingitkristen, she begins the video by saying, “So I feel like most people who are named after somebody have like a cute story behind it or they’re named somebody really special.
"That is not the case for me. If it’s not the case for you either, stitch this and let me know. However, I’ll go first.” She continues the video by mentioning that she was the first child from her parents and that her parents made an agreement about how she would be named based on the gender.

“So, I was my parents’ first child, and when my mom was pregnant with me, my parents had an agreement that if I was a boy, my mom was gonna get to name me after my grandfather and if I was a girl, my dad was gonna get to name me.”
Fast forward to her arrival on earth.
“My mom ended up having a c-section because my big head wouldn’t fit through the birth canal,” she shares.
Due to the c-section, her mother had to be given a lot of medication, which resulted in her being unable to fill in all the paperwork, making her father the one responsible for them.

"He chose to name me Kristina. When my mom came to it, I guess she didn’t hate the name, so she kind of went with it,” Kristina says, adding that everything was fine until the truth came out about the inspiration behind her name.
“My mom found out that my Dad was cheating on her, and guess what the woman’s name was, ‘Kristina’ so if he messed up and called her the wrong name, he could say he was talking about me.”

The video received over 3 000 comments from users, who shared their opinions on this unfortunate permanent incident, with one calling out the father saying, “Wow… Just wow. Soooo that was pretty selfish. Do you have a relationship with your dad?”
Another added, “This is an epic story.”
Others also shared why they were given the names they have. One user shared, “My mom always told me that I was named after a character on General Hospital."
Another user shared, "My dad drunkenly admitted that I was named after a stripper.”
