Russian producer Uralchem has dispatched 23 000 tonnes of potash and compound fertiliser to Zimbabwe, it announced on Monday, as it ships chemicals "stranded" in Europe to African countries facing hunger.
Zimbabwe will receive the fertiliser free, down to the shipping costs.
Zimbabwe is among countries in the region at risk of grain shortages thanks to ongoing adverse weather, with the prospect of 20 million people reaching the point of starvation in the first part of 2024.
