The art of Japanese rope bondage has become more popular in recent years – but what exactly is it?

Shibari or kinbaku has become synonymous with the BDSM/kink space and therefore has a bit of a salacious connotation. From the outside, it looks like yet another way to get off for people who aren't just into vanilla sex, but Astrid, co-founder of Embodiment Rope Space in Salt River, Cape Town, says there's so much more to shibari than meets the eye.
