A horrific car accident that nearly claimed her life and left her bed-ridden, did little to deter local songbird Thumeka Lothe from fulfilling her music journey.

The gospel singer released her latest album ‘Undisindisile uThixo’ in October last year.

The album has Volume one, two and three with a total of 61 songs.

In an interview with City Vision, during her recent live performance at the Khayelitsha Mall, Lothe labelled the album as a history maker.

“My album has Volume 1 which has 19 songs, Volume 2 with 22 songs and Volume 3 with 20 songs. All are in one album with the same title. This album is about me. It is about all the experiences that I went through after I had a car accident in 2022,” explained Lothe.

She said she wrote the album while she was bedridden and in pain.

Lothe’s accident happened on Easter Friday in 2022. She was travelling from Komani to Cape Town. Most people thought she was dead, she added. Her legs were fractured and the backbone was cracked.

“I was in the hospital for 11 months and spent another six months at home. Fortunately, I was transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital and when I was discharged I went to my house in Delft. I have a studio in my house and I was able to record my music with the assistance of my husband, Eric Lothe, who is also my manager. I recorded the whole album while I was in bed,” she said. She only started walking properly in October last year.

Lothe described her music as traditional and mostly from life experience and things that happen in society. She said Undisindisile uThixo is her 16th album. Like any other artist Lothe said she promotes her music by singing in malls, taxi ranks etc. She said her CD is R60 and you can get it from her. For bookings or enquiries about the CD can call Thumeka Lothe on 078 013 3243.
