One person has died while eight others sustained injuries in an accident involving a bus on the R61 road between Komani and Cofimvaba.
Spokesperson for the Department of Transport Unathi Binqose said that it is alleged that while travelling from Komani to a political event in Engcobo, a bus with approximately 35 passengers lost power while driving on an uphill road and was involved in an accident on the R61.
“One person died while eight others sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Komani,” said Binqose.
He further said that the remaining passengers, including the bus driver, escaped unscathed.
“A culpable homicide case has been opened for further investigations,” said Binqose.
MEC for Transport in the Eastern Cape, Xolile Nqatha extended his heartfelt condolences to the woman who lost her life in the accident and wished those recovering in the hospital a speedy recovery.
