SAPS Cookhouse members swiftly acted on intelligence received of drugs being transported on the N10 towards Somerset East and Cradock. Their immediate response resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the confiscation of a substantial amount of drugs.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Marius McCarthy, it is alleged that on February 29, at about 12:00 members of SAPS Cookhouse stopped a white Nissan NP 200 bakkie on the N10 and searched it.

“A total of 1 030 mandrax tablets and 219 grams of tik were found. Also, 498 mandrax tablets were found strapped around the suspect’s waist,” said McCarthy.

“The estimated value of the confiscated drugs is R135 000.”

McCarthy said that two suspects, aged 41 and 72 years old were arrested and detained on charges of dealing in drugs.

He said that they are expected to appear in the Somerset East Magistrate Court on March 1.

Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Maj Gen Zolani Xawuka applauded the members involved for reacting quickly to the information received.
