A total of seven people has died, while five more sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision involving two vehicles on the R67 road between Fort Beaufort and Seymour on April 21.
Eastern Cape transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said that one vehicle with seven occupants was travelling from Fort Beaufort to Seymour while the other vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction when the crash occurred at about 18:20 on April 21.
“All five occupants travelling in one of the vehicles perished on the scene while the two occupants travelling in the second vehicle also succumbed to their injuries. Both drivers are among the deceased,” said Binqose.
He further said that the injured passengers were rushed to a hospital in Fort Beaufort for medical attention.
Binqose said that a culpable homicide docket has been opened.
The MEC for transport in the Eastern Cape Xolile Nqatha has yet again advised motorists to remain vigilant on the road to help avoid accidents like head-on-collisions which continue to claim so many lives on our roads.
