After being shot at multiple times on February 29, in broad daylight outside the Kouga Municipality Main Building in Da Gama Road, Jeffreys Bay, DA municipal ward 4 councillor, and mayoral committee member, Jaques Alexander was discharged from hospital this morning, March 4, and is in a stable condition.
As previously reported by Kouga Express, police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that on February 29, while parking his car, a Ford Laser passed Alexander and two suspects got out of the vehicle and fired shots at him.
She further said that after running off in different directions the two suspects were swiftly arrested while the suspects’ vehicle was immediately circulated, and it was pulled over while speeding in Da Gama Road where two additional suspects were apprehended.
Naidu said that the suspects aged between 26 and 40 were detained on charges of attempted murder.
According to Netwerk24, the four suspects appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court today, March 4, for a formal bail hearing and they are expected to appear in court again on March 8.
The suspects are, Mthumzi Lani, Lutho Mbatha, Luciano Jacobs, and Athenkosi Gidane.
Kouga executive mayor, Hattingh Bornman said that after Alexander was rushed to a hospital in Gqeberha, four days later, on March 4, he was discharged from hospital.
“Councillor Alexander is in a stable condition and even attended the court case today,” said Bornman.
