Detectives in Humansdorp are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a minibus transporting learners from a school in Gqeberha overturned on the N2 near Kareedouw earlier today, February 22.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Marius McCarthy, at about 10:30 on February 22, the minibus was travelling on the N2 in the direction of Cape Town when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the Kareedouw offramp and the vehicle overturned.
“Some of the learners had minor injuries and were attended to by EMS,” said McCarthy.
Eastern Cape Department spokesperson, Unathi Bhinqose said that all 14 occupants from a school in Gqeberha survived after the school bus they were travelling in overturned on the N2 road.
“The school bus was travelling from Gqeberha to Knysna for a sporting event when the driver lost control of the vehicle,” said Bhinqose.
“It veered off the road and it overturned.”
Bhinqose further said that the learners including the driver escaped with minor injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals, except for one, who was rushed to a hospital in Gqeberha.
The school's name is known to Kouga Express.
