In a testament to the power of community collaboration and dedication to uplift and beautify Jeffreys Bay, Kouga Municipality is proud to be part of a youth art project in the heart of the Pellsrus community.

An inspiring mural is the result of a partnership between Kouga Municipality, dedicated members of Dorp van Drome, and learners from Pellsrus Primary School.

The mural, which adorns the wall of a Pellsrus Community Park on Joe Slovo Street, stands as a symbol of unity, creativity, and community pride.

It was brought to life through the unwavering commitment of local resident, Johan Deysel, who has called Jeffreys Bay home for 35 years.

Deysel selflessly dedicates every Thursday to support Dorp van Drome’s inspiring initiatives.

On this project he not only lent his artistic talents to paint the mural, but also played a vital role in preparing the base and sketching the images.

His involvement allowed local children from Pellsrus Primary School to actively participate in this creative community art project.

Bryan Dhludhlu, Kouga PR Ward 6 councillor and chairman of Dorp van Drome, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful community involvement that has made this mural a reality.

He emphasised the close-knit nature of the Jeffreys Bay community, where residents are always willing to lend a helping hand.

Deysel, a shining example of this spirit, has proven that a single individual can make an enormous impact when they dedicate themselves to the betterment of their community.

Community involvement is not just important, it’s the lifeblood of our town.

“It’s about more than just improving physical spaces; it’s about fostering a sense of togetherness and pride in our community.

“As we unveil this mural, we also unveil the power of unity and collaboration. It is not only about what we create today, but what we teach our children for tomorrow. We must instil in them the importance of becoming active members of our society, participating in projects like this, and understanding that, as a community, we are stronger together and look out for each other.

“The future of Jeffreys Bay is in the hands of these young individuals, and the lessons they learn today will shape the Jeffreys Bay of tomorrow.”

The collaboration between the municipality and Dorp van Drome serves as a clear demonstration of the municipality’s commitment to the upliftment, cleanliness, and greenery of Jeffreys Bay.

The municipality has gone above and beyond, by supplying Dorp van Drome with four dedicated staff members to assist with their various community projects. This partnership signifies their belief in the power of community-driven initiatives and the potential to create positive change in our town.

The municipality extends its appreciation to all those involved in making this project a reality, and they invite the public to join in the celebration of this colourful addition to our town’s artistic landscape.
