A well-known Maskandi singer from Kwandima location in eNgcobo, Amahle Neti, known as Baphantsi, has been nominated for best Maskandi Artist in the Isiqalo Mkhandi Awards schedled to take place in Durban on June 22.
He said he joined this industry as a dancer, dancing for his brother, Mthandazo Neti, known as Ma-bonus, in 2016.
According to him, he used to travel to Durban to get some experience in the music industry, then he took a decision to go to Cape Town to look for a job.
“I met Malizo Xhakane who is also an artist. I learned from him how to play the guitar, then I started to compose my first album. I released it in 2020. It was titled Amadikazi, which was followed by an album titled Amalizo; then I promoted them in 2022 and 2023. I taught one of my dancers, Qhawekazi Dlanga (13), how to sing and play a guitar and now she is following in my footsteps,” said Neti.
He added that he has released a third album, titled Imali yo-Enzo.
He said he had composed it to stop those women who use the social grant for their children to buy alcohol and unnecessary things.
“I have been nominated as a best Maskhandi Artist on Isiqalo Maskhandi Awards, and the voting lines will be closed on June 13, 2024. I am asking the people of South Africa to vote for me. To vote for Baphantsi you can send an SMS with the name IMA 14 to 45633. Each SMS costs R1.50.”
