The Ingquza Hill Business Chamber has presented the Mzolisa family in Lusikisiki with arguably the biggest early Christmas present, after building and handing over a new house to the destitute family.
The business fraternity came to the rescue of the family after images of their living conditions in an unsafe house that was falling apart were circulated on social media platforms in October.
A representative from the Ingquza Hill Business Chamber said they took the decision to help the family, so that they can have a place they can be proud to call home.
He further said that the building of the house was a concerted effort by various stakeholders, including government, neighbours, local traditional leaders, and the community of Hombe Village as a whole.
“We wish to thank the Ingquza Hill Business Chamber for the wonderful gesture to the family. This is testament to the good relations and co-operation between the business fraternity and government. May the good relations and co-operation continue to better the lives of Ingquza Hill Local Municipality citizens,” said Ingquza Hill Local Municipality mayor, Nonkosi Pepping.
Pepping further made a donation of groceries to the family.
The municipality, following the circulation of the family’s inhumane living conditions on social media, had provided a temporary structure for the family while the house was under construction.
The house was handed over to the jubilant Mzolisa family on December 13.
In another development, Mayor Pepping, together with OR Tambo District Municipality Mayoral Committee Member responsible for Human Settlements, Thandekile Sabisa, handed over a new house to an elderly woman, Daniwe Ngxaza, at Pelepele locality in Flagstaff, on December 14.
The house forms part of the Ingquza 390 housing project, where 170 housing units were completed while work is ongoing on others.
In a video posted on social media, the visibly excited beneficiary expressed gratitude for the house saying her prayers have been answered.
