Nyandeni Local Municipality mayor, Viwe Ndamase, celebrated his birthday on October 7 by hosting a banquet for 23 destitute children where he personally gifted his young guests with full school uniforms and school shoes.

The gesture was aimed at addressing the immediate needs of the children, whilst also restoring their dignity and encouraging them to continue their educational journey with enthusiasm, according to the local municipality.

The 23 were identified from Luthubeni and Nonesi Senior Primary Schools.

“It pains me to see children, as young as these ones, walking to school barefoot because they do not have school shoes.

Through the donation we want them to not be made fun of by their peers for not having proper school uniforms and for them to embark on their educational journey with renewed vigour and confidence.

The municipality added that Ndamase had taken matters in his own hands to address the needs of the schoolchildren, as he believed that education was the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and creating a better future for communities.

“By donating school uniforms and shoes, he hopes to empower these young minds and motivate them to stay in school and pursue their dreams,” added the municipal spokesperson, Ncebakazi Kolwane.

The municipality has commended Ndamase for his unwavering dedication to the well-being and education of children.

“His actions exemplify the spirit of compassion and leadership that we are fortunate to have in our municipality,” Kolwane concluded.
