The man who is accused of sexually abusing his five-year-old daughter is expected back in court on Friday, February 24, for the continuation of the bail application.
According to Eastern Cape Department of Education spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima, the incident was brought to the department's attention by the Amathole West education district where the alleged perpetrator works.
"Since then, the department has worked around the clock to support the victim," said Mtima.
Eastern Cape Department of Education, MEC Fundile Gade, has called upon educators, learners, and the communities to report any incidents of this nature.
"Keeping silent amounts to promoting it. Although the reports state that the alleged incident happened at home, we still call for justice to protect innocent children," said Gade.
He appealed to fathers to take bold steps in protecting children as they are the country's future and leaders of tomorrow.
"We have instructed departmental officials to work with other relevant departments to support the victim and the family during this period. This includes activating the psychosocial support services for the child and family," Gade added.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana confirmed that the members of the Butterworth Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) arrested an educator who allegedly raped the victim.
“It is alleged that the suspect is also believed to be the victim's father,” said Kinana.
