With serious crimes in Mthatha seemingly getting out of control, the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality has announced the setting up of a war room on crime.
This will be a multi-faceted structure made up of all security agencies and concerned stakeholders that it says will deal with all sorts of crime on a 24-hour basis.
The war room will receive daily reports on crime combating operations within the local municipality, as well as driving the devising and application of crime fighting strategies to curb crime in Mthatha and surrounds.
“Mthatha has been identified as one of the leading crime hotspots and the municipal council has come up with the War Room initiative to ensure zero tolerance on crime within the municipal boundaries,” said KSD municipal spokesperson Sonwabo Mampoza.

“We have municipal law enforcement officers who are conducting crime combating operations. We also have special operations in the Mthatha CBD where our officers do cordon and stop and search operations as part of our crime combating efforts,” Mampoza added.
The war room will convene weekly to receive reports and determine areas that need bolstering in its crime fighting efforts.
Since Monday, September 12, a total of five murders, suspected to be related to ongoing taxi violence, were reported within the KSD municipality while further three suspects were killed during a shootout with police.
