Popular Butterworth Master of Ceremonies (MC) Azole Jezile and friends have donated over 600 jackets to an orphanage and children from Skiet Informal Settlement in Butterworth to cushion them from the cold winter season.

The donation benefited children up to 15 years old on Friday, July 7.

Jezile says that he decided to fund-raise for the jackets after participating in the SUV Challenge, during which donations of school shoes, food and clothing were made but did not benefit his home town of Butterworth.

“Earlier this year, I was part of the SUV Challenge, whereby we visited deep rural areas and donated shoes, food, and clothes to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.”

“Because that did not benefit anyone from Butterworth, I then asked myself what I could do for my people back home – which culminated in me starting the Change A Life Movement to mobilise resources towards the winter jackets initiative,” said Jezile.

According to Jezile, a total of 643 jackets were donated to Siyakhana Children’s Home and children of Skiet Informal Settlement in Butterworth.

He further said that he plans to make donations to needy and deserving institutions and individuals at least four times a year as part of the Change a Life Movement.

Jezile added that he would soon visit three high schools in Butterworth to donate sanitary pads and toiletries.

“A friend of mine, Siyavuya Mbete, always says that “Helping someone will never be out of fashion” and those profound words have motivated me to start the Change a Life Movement,” said Jezile.

The jackets were mobilised through Jezile’s fund-raising and contributions from private businesses in Butterworth. A clothing company called Tele Tele Wear from Tsomo also donated their designs towards the charitable cause.
