The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has suffered a triple blow after their Mthatha based national head office was burgled on three consecutive days with important documents and tools of trade stolen. ATM national spokesperson Zama Ntshona said the first burglary was on January 15 followed by a second one on January 16. Following the release of a statement on January 17 during the day, a third burglary occurred in the evening of the same day.
Ntshona said: “Just received a call from Head Office that another break in occurred last night (3rd in succession). The guards could not respond as the invaders were heavily armed. They accessed the building through the back, broke a window to access the building.” He said the party rejected the bullying tactics and that its commitment to the people of SA remained unshaken.
Ntshona estimated damage to the property at R150 000 with six laptops, critical documents and hard drives having been stolen.
“The heinous act involved the disabling of our electric fence and alarm system. The theft of essential information is not merely a burglary, it is indicative of more sinister motives at play.
We caution those responsible that such actions will not deter us from our mission to serve the people and uphold their rights,” he said. He said that the burglars returned raised a concern that suggested a deliberate and targeted effort to obtain specific information or devices.
“This calculated act is particularly sinister given the upcoming elections, reinforcing the urgency for a thorough investigation into the motives behind these criminals. We urge law enforcement agencies to expedite their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators,” he said.
Ntshona said the party opened a case at the Mthatha police station going as far as sharing the case number. Police provincial spokesperson, warrant officer Majola Nkohli had not responded at the time of writing.
