The Mayor of King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, Councillor Nyaniso Nelani, confirmed that the KSDM Traffic Bus that was introduced to the KSD community will generate more revenue for this municipality.

The bus was introduced at Freedom Square in Mthatha, last week.

He said that this bus would be used by law enforcement officers to curb crime and deal with other law enforcement activities, including traffic tickets.

“When the council started this term, we made sure that we set some goals for us, more especially now that our municipality will become a metro. We have already started knocking on different doors in order to ensure that our dream is coming true,” said Nelani.

He added that this bus would help in reducing crime, and ensuring that drivers were following the rules of the road.

Nelani said that the habit of people who were not respecting the rules of the road would now be the thing of the past.

Nelani emphasised that drivers will now be forced to pay their tickets, because this bus will manage to curb everything.

According to him, there are still lots of things that they need to do, because they have to make sure that they are using tough hands now.

Let us work together and build our KSD municipality because this will help to increase the revenue, to lower the high rate of crime in our town, and to ensure that drivers obey the rules of the road.

Nelani confirmed that they will install some cameras in the Central Business District (CBD) of Mthatha before the end of this year.

According to him, at the moment they have five cameras but still need more.

He said now that they have partnerships with the citizens of this municipality it will be easy for them to do this.

Nelani said that they will install these cameras in all the hot spot areas that had been identified as crime zones.

“These cameras will make things easy for the municipality, because now we will be able to monitor everything that is happening in town, including potholes.”

President of the Eastern Cape Chamber of Business, Vuyisile Ntlabath,i said that these developments will make their businesses run smoothly.

He said some of the driver’s double park when they are parking their vehicles.

“People who used to benefit were thugs, before they used to get all the time to commit crime. This bus will bring a big change because drivers will now do what is right.

“I am also happy that there will be some cameras, so it is going to be easy to do business in Mthatha now.

“We are very proud of what the municipality is doing for us,” said Ntlabathi.
